Ethnic Tension in the solomons
The ethnic tension between the guadalcanal and malaita has resulted in a massive displacement of people back to their provinces.Residents o the guadalcanal origin in the areas affected by the tension were forced to leave the coastal areas and flee back to thier provinces. The tension could have been aggravated by some political and social grievance, but th root cause is linked to land issue. The impact of the tension for all these displaced families is served..Before the actual displacement ,settlers of malaita origin at east and west sides of honiara were harrased and in some cases intimidated at gunpoint to leave the area.Incidence of harrasement took place at boarding schools as well, forcing many student to leave.Families from guadalcanal ,malaita and other provinces who used to live in villages east and west have lost their properties and gardens, and house were mostly burned to the ground. So the ethnic tension really affected the livelihood of the people interms of their physical and sociall well beign. However in 2000 the regional assitant mission to the solomon island known as the RAMSI cam in to the coutry and lighten the burden for our leaders.
